Disney CEO Bob Iger Receives Honorary Doctorate from Ithaca College

He graduated from the school back in 1973.

The head of the Walt Disney Company has a new title as he just received an honorary Doctor of Letters from his Alma Mater, Ithaca College.

What’s Happening:

  • Disney CEO Bob Iger has taken to his personal Instagram to share a special moment that occurred over the weekend at Ithaca College.
  • The Alma Mater of the head of the Walt Disney Company, Ithaca has welcomed Iger every year for many years now to talk with IC students, either in person or over Skype as part of the popular S’Park course.
  • Today, as part of the 2025 Commencement address and ceremonies, Iger was presented with an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from the school.
  • The Ithaca College Board of Trustees awards honorary degrees to individuals who embody the college's values and mission upon faculty recommendation.
  • Iger graduated with a degree in television-radio in 1973 and has been a steadfast supporter of the college since.
  • Along with Iger himself making an appearance at the ceremony, ABC’s World News Tonight anchor David Muir made a surprise appearance and, according to Iger, provided “the most generous introduction."

  • Iger received his honorary doctorate 52 years after his own graduation back in 1973, a point he mentioned when he captioned his photoset: “Thank you, [Ithaca College] for my honorary doctorate, & thank you [David Muir] for the surprise (and most generous) introduction! So great to be back at my Alma mater, 52 yrs after my own graduation!"
  • Ithaca College President La Jerne Terry Cornish praised Iger in an April 30th statement from the college, saying "Bob Iger is truly deserving of this honor. His contributions to Ithaca College, our students, and the community are deeply appreciated."
  • Previously, Iger has served as a commencement speaker and trustee for Ithaca, and received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2008.
