Review - Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After is a Fun and Interactive Addition to Disney's Hollywood Studios
This week, two new shows will debut at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. One is an updated Little Mermaid show (which you can read my review of), while the other is a celebration of our favorite baddies from the Disney canon. Luckily for fans and guests, Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After is an engaging addition to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, injecting a burst of energy and excitement into the park's entertainment offerings.
The show proves to be a fantastic way to bring the spotlight to Disney's iconic villains — of which there are more than 85 featured in the production. Yet, while many are surely familiar with their stories, Unfairly Ever After offers fresh perspective as well as a whole new level of fun.
The concept behind Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After is simple but brilliant: telling the story of three core villains (Maleficent, Captain Hook, and Cruella de Vil) and asking which of these antagonists has been treated the most unjustly. This set-up also introduces an element of interactivity as the audience is encouraged to vote for the villain they feel is the most “misunderstood." Obviously, that element is not only a fun way to keep guests engaged and invested in the performance but it also adds a layer of replay value to the show.
As mentioned, while the show features a wide array of characters throughout its runtime, there are three main stars that each get their own segment. These sections are a visual treat, employing multiple effects. Meanwhile, another element that stands out is the catchy, high-energy number, which draws you in right from the start.
Once again, with 85 villains featured throughout the show, fans will want to keep their eyes peeled for their favorite foes who may make quick cameos. Personally, I was most excited to spot a haunting villain from The Black Cauldron, who I would have sworn would be left out! Imagine my delight to learn this wasn’t the case. Of course, it’s a delightful challenge to spy and identify each of these characters as they make fleeting appearances.
In my opinion, Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After is a must-see show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. With its catchy numbers, stunning visuals, and all around fun, it’s sure to become one of those new offerings that everyone talks about. Whether you’re a lifelong Disney villain fan or have an open enough mind to hear their side of story, it’s a show I’m sure you’ll find enjoyable.
